Commit a few hours to a more inclusive welcome in our schools

Every year, new families join our Francophone schools. Some come from another province, others from outside Canada. They all share the same wish: for their children to feel welcomed, understood, and included. Le Projet Immigration of the Fédération des parents francophones aims precisely to strengthen this welcome, with the help of parents.

What does it mean, to become a “parent liaison”?

Being a parent liaison simply means choosing to get involved, at your own pace, to contribute to a more inclusive school environment.

In practical terms, this could mean:

  • Participating in a brainstorming session on welcoming new families;
  • Being consulted on the creation of simple tools (welcome letter, guide, or inclusivity guidelines);
  • Participating in a workshop on inclusion, anti-racism, or reconciliation offered by the Fédération;
  • Being present at a community event to guide or welcome parents.

This is not a big or permanent commitment. A few hours can make a real difference!

Why is this commitment important?

Parent volunteers play a key role in a school’s culture.

By becoming a parent liaison, you contribute to:

  • Facilitating the integration of newly arrived families;
  • Encouraging respectful intercultural initiatives;
  • Creating safe spaces where all families feel at home.

A commitment supported by the Fédération

As part of le Projet Immigration, the Fédération recognizes the commitment of parent volunteers and values the time you dedicate to the school community.

When you participate in a community activity or event related to welcoming and integration, we can support your involvement, including by covering:

  • travel expenses;
  • meals related to your participation;
  • child care costs.

Together, we can make a difference

Welcoming families isn’t the responsibility of just one person.

It’s built collectively, through small gestures, conversations, and initiatives.

If you’d like to volunteer a few hours to contribute to a more inclusive school environment, the Fédération des parents team would be happy to connect with you. Email us at immigration.coordination@fpfcb.bc.ca.

Together, let’s make our schools places where every family feels welcome!
